How it works: Longer stainless steel bristles get through thick, curly or extension-heavy hair instead of bending at the surface. Each bristle sits in a cushioned pad that flexes around a knot rather than tearing through it. Start at the ends, work up in short passes, finish with one slow pass from root to end.

How it compares: Plastic bristles bend before they reach the scalp, and the beads on their tips catch hair. Boar bristles can't take wet hair.
